Billing Specialist

Position Overview

A respected national firm is seeking a Billing Specialist to support its Billing and Accounts Receivable operations. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of a high volume of monthly invoices in accordance with internal policies and client-specific billing guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process invoices, including complex billing formats such as split-party, flat fee, and discount tier arrangements.
• Interpret and apply specialized fee agreements and client billing instructions.
• Ensure billing data accuracy by reviewing matter setup and maintaining up-to-date billing notes.
• Edit and finalize pre-bills based on internal direction and external protocols.
• Submit invoices via client-specific electronic billing systems; follow up on rejections and appeals.
• Communicate with attorneys, clients, and internal teams to resolve billing discrepancies.
• Monitor budgets and matter billing progress, escalating issues when necessary.
• Collaborate with collections and accounts payable to reconcile accounts and ensure full cost recovery.
• Provide regular reporting and analysis on billing activity and payment status.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives and support billing-related projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of billing experience, preferably within legal or professional services.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex billing structures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; strong math and data entry skills.
• Experience with billing systems such as Aderant; familiarity with electronic billing platforms preferred.
• Client-focused mindset with a proactive and solutions-driven approach.

Compensation

• Salary Range: $75,000 – $95,000, depending on experience and location.
