Job Title: Project Manager – Automation & Controls

Location: Norcross, GA

Employment Type: Full-Time | Hybrid | 15–35% Travel

Position Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for the successful execution of assigned projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of the client. This role involves cross-functional coordination with engineering, production, and client-facing teams. The ideal candidate brings experience in automation, controls, or SCADA system integration projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review all project documentation thoroughly to understand contractual scope, timelines, and technical requirements.

  • Analyze project budgets across all categories and develop strategies to meet or reduce budgeted costs.

  • Collaborate with the sales and estimating teams to refine future pricing based on historical performance and bidding trends.

  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using a project management platform (e.g., NetSuite), aligning with contractor and client milestones.

  • Coordinate closely with the production team to monitor progress and deliverables.

  • Work with engineering to develop and submit instrumentation, panel hardware, and electrical design documentation.

  • Serve as a liaison for technical queries related to PLCs, HMI software, SCADA systems, and field instrumentation.

  • Lead the project according to internal best practices and established methodologies.

  • Participate in regular review meetings to provide updates on project milestones, risks, and corrective actions.

  • Oversee quality control reviews, factory and site acceptance tests, and customer demonstrations.

  • Interface with finance to manage billing schedules and ensure timely invoicing aligned with contract terms.

  • Submit required project documentation and reporting including WIP updates, revenue forecasts, and labor planning.

  • Ensure all deliverables including punch lists, training, documentation, and billing are completed prior to project closeout.

  • Simultaneously manage up to 20 projects ranging from $10,000 to $5,000,000 in total value.

  • Provide ongoing support during the warranty phase and maintain customer relationships to encourage repeat business.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent industry experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Project Manager overseeing technical or controls-related engineering projects

  • Ability to interpret engineering contract documents and technical specifications

  • Strong problem-solving, leadership, and organizational skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project)

  • Ability to manage complex budgets, timelines, and contractual deliverables across multiple projects

Preferred:

  • Experience in the Water/Wastewater or other industrial automation sectors

  • Familiarity with SCADA, HMI, or instrumentation and control systems

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with regular visits to engineering offices, client sites, and vendor facilities

  • Protective equipment may be required when visiting job sites (PPE: safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, etc.)

  • Use of standard office equipment including computer, phone, and project management software

Travel Requirements

  • Travel is required 15%–35% of the time depending on the needs of individual projects

  • Includes site visits, customer meetings, FAT/SAT participation, and project commissioning
