**Job Description**
We are seeking a skilled Rigger to join our team. The ideal candidate should be able to work independently. The Rigger will be responsible for rigging materials to lift, move, and position them onto ships or around the yard. Additionally, the role involves conveying instructions to crane operators and forklift drivers, testing and installing rigging equipment, and controlling the movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces.
**Responsibilities**
+ Rig materials to be lifted, moved, and positioned onto ships or around the shipyard.
+ Convey instructions to crane operators and forklift drivers using hand signals, loud speakers, or telephones.
+ Locate, load, and unload materials and equipment on and off ships and in and out of the yard.
+ Test and install rigging equipment, such as cargo booms, elevators, boat davits, booms, and portable davits.
+ Control the movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces.
+ Select cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, braces, and cushions according to the weight, distribution, and size of the load to be moved.
+ Set up tools and equipment at job sites and put equipment away when finished.
+ Handle winches, grip hoists, pulleys, cables, ropes, mooring lines, and other equipment.
**Essential Skills**
+ 3-5+ years of rigging experience, ideally in a shipyard environment.
+ Knowledgeable in crane rigging, inside rigging, loft rigging, or bull rigging.
+ Experience with chain falls, comealongs, slings, straps, spreader bars, cables, ropes, and hoisting.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ NCCER certification is a plus.
+ Experience with overhead cranes.
**Work Environment**
+ Work is performed in a shipyard environment. The role requires handling various rigging tools and equipment, working in confined spaces, and coordinating with crane operators and forklift drivers to ensure the safe and efficient movement of materials.
**Job Type & Location**
+ This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $31.00/hr.
