Direct all activities with regard to the equipping of all departmental vehicles with enforcement emergency equipment, i.e, vans, large trucks, motor homes, pickups, all terrain vehicles, undercover sedans. This includes, but is not limited to, prototype and development of equipment configurations, scheduling vehicle assembly, parts and supply availability, inventory control, monitoring safety practices within the working environment, evaluating job efficiency, preparing work schedules, regulating workload, and quality control. Forecast the need for the purchase of equipment and supplies to equip the Department’s fleet of vehicles. This includes the monitoring and maintenance of the most current automotive lifts, pneumatic tools, specialized screw installing tools, drills, saws, test equipment, and parts moving apparatus. Maintain contact with vendors to ensure that an adequate number of suppliers are available to provide the necessary equipment and supplies to support equipping activities.

The Automotive Technician III will work both indoors and outdoors. Incumbents are required to crawl underneath a vehicle/down under the dashboard/into the trunk; lift and carry tires up to 60 pounds in weight; and work in varying, and sometimes extreme, temperatures.
