Juvenile Intensive Supervision Probation Officer Fund.................State Grant DepartmentSFTCC (Santa Fe Trail Community Corrections/KDOC-Juvenile Services (KDOC-JS) FLSA Status.Non-Exempt Reports To Deputy Director of Juvenile Services Job Status Full time Travel..Moderate Work Schedule.40 hours/week min. Position Summary: A full-time, hourly position working within the 16th Judicial District, responsible for providing case management and supervision to youth placed on Juvenile Intensive Supervision Probation by the court. Essential Function Statement(s) Ensure all standards defined by KDOC-JS, Ford County and SFTCC are maintained. Thoroughly document detailed notes in a timely manner based on contacts with youth, parent(s), schools, court, service providers, etc. into the KDOC data information system. Effectively utilize risk-needs assessments with youth as standardized by KDOC-JS, and maintain certification to conduct said assessments. Ability to guide youth in the development and implementation of a case plan for meeting goals and supervision requirements while addressing criminogenic risk factors. Accurately maintain files on all youth sentenced to Juvenile Intensive Supervised Probation (JISP) and protect any confidential information relating to youth, including oral, written and electronic. Work cooperatively with court systems, Judges, co-workers and service providers. Facilitate evidence-based programming for youth using approved curricula. Verify youths participation in required interventions and ensure compliance with special court orders, restitution payments and conditions of supervision. Make court appearances and recommendations that impact disposition/sentencing of cases. Must provide effective, credible testimony in court when called upon. Assisting youth/families in obtaining and coordinating substance abuse treatment, mental and physical health treatment, housing, employment, education, and other treatment interventions directly or through referral. Maintain statistics for youth receiving case management and evidence-based programming services for quarterly and annual reports as directed. Provide assistance to co-workers as needed. Conduct random drug screens.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Duties are performed independently under general guidance from the Deputy Director of Juvenile Services. Must be proactive to staff, youth and public safety issues. Assist with completing juvenile Intakes/Assessments at various locations within 16th Judicial District if needed. Other related duties as necessary and/or required. Position qualifications Competency Statement(s) Accuracy- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly. Communication, Oral and Written- Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word and proper writing style in all communication vehicles. Problem Solving- Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively to work-related problems.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Experience: Two years experience working with 12 to 18-year-old youth, both male and female. Supervisory capacity preferred. Education: Bachelors degree in human services or related field or experience working with youth/families with one (1) year of related experience substituting for (1) year of education. Extensive experience in the area of Juvenile Justice will be considered on a case by case basis. Skills: Proficiency in MS Word and Excel or operating systems. The ability to communicate in a professional manner. Typing and computer literacy with Microsoft Office is essential. Valid Kansas Drivers License and reliable transportation. Ability to operate a copy machine, calculator, computer and other related office machines. The ability to receive, interpret and follow oral and/or written communication as well as possess organizational skills. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, county officials, and the public. Problem Solving: Problem solving exists in this position. Duties follow prescribed policies and procedures and law. Decision Making: Employee is responsible for executing decisions regarding youth being supervised. Supervisory approval may be required in some areas. Accountability: Employee is responsible for budgetary control of the department resources but does not participate in the annual budget process. Supervision: Employee does not have supervisory responsibility over subordinate personnel. Personal Relations: Frequent contact with other KDOC employees/departments, county departments, the criminal element and the general public requiring ability to communicate and relate in a positive and effective manner. Working Conditions: Position is at some risk due to working in law enforcement. Weather is usually not a factor. Requirements: Valid Kansas drivers license. Twenty-one year of age or older. Be qualified for access to any Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) data. Not be registered on the Kansas child abuse registry. Not be registered on the Kansas adult abuse registry. Successfully pass a urinalysis drug screen. Must pass law enforcement background check. Bilingual in English-Spanish preferred but not required. Must maintain risk/need assessment certification. Obtain a minimum of forty (40) training hours per year.
