Homeowners use Castle to pay for and track all of their home expenses in one place. Castle then monitors those transactions for opportunities to save . The average Castle customer saves more than $10,000 on their home.
Housing affordability is a major problem in the U.S. At Castle, we believe that homeowners deserve better data when it comes to managing their biggest asset. We’re building payments infrastructure for the largest consumer category in the U.S. — to help people automate, consolidate, and reduce their spend.
As a Product Designer at Castle, you’ll be a foundational member of our UX design team creating a simpler, smarter, and more manageable experience for homeowners. You will be responsible for researching, designing, and iterating on the user experience across Castle’s web and mobile products.
In this role, you will work closely with the Head of Design, as well as cross-functionally with team members in engineering, product, and business operations, to design intuitive, user-centered interactions. This is a hands-on role for a designer who brings strong visual and interaction design skills, thrives in fast-paced environments, and is excited to set the tone of a world-class consumer brand from the ground up. Open to both full-time and part-time applicants.
Core responsibilities include:
Conducting research in collaboration with product and ops to understand user needs, pain points, and the competitive landscape.
Creating design artifacts to align on product direction, considering technical and business constraints.
Designing, testing, and iterating to ensure solutions are beautiful, cohesive and effective.
Collaborating closely with engineering to bring product vision to life.
Defining and elevating Castle’s visual, interaction, and brand identity through reusable patterns and components.
What you’ll need:
A strong portfolio demonstrating strong visual design fundamentals — including layout, typography, hierarchy, and clean, user-focused UI/UX across web and mobile interfaces.
Strong visual aesthetics and the ability to effectively express a brand while directing user attention and clearly conveying information hierarchy.
An understanding of user-centered design processes and the ability to employ appropriate research and validation techniques.
Technical fluency to collaborate seamlessly with engineers and anticipate implementation effort, tradeoffs, and constraints.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
A reflexive understanding of usability heuristics and an ability to navigate tension between those heuristics.
Curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a highly iterative startup environment where you will wear multiple hats based on current project and company needs.
An interest in homeownership, financial technology, or consumer-focused digital products — and a passion for making complex experiences intuitive and engaging.
Qualifications
Proven experience (2+ years) designing web or mobile products OR a masters degree in interaction design / HCI / the equivalent.
Fluency in design tools like Figma.
Expertise in web, mobile, and responsive interaction design paradigms and the ability to select, adapt, or invent the best pattern for a given challenge.
Experience with front-end implementation (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React), Webflow, and motion design is a plus.
Fintech or consumer tech experience is a plus.
